Residents of Bozine Town say that they will hold Prime Minister Perry Christie to his word when he says that he does not abandon Bahamians.
More than 100 residents of the area marched to Cabinet yesterday to protest what they consider an attempt to take their land by the Harrold Road Land development Company (LANDCO).
They met briefly with Mr. Christie as he entered the Churchill Building for his weekly Cabinet meeting. Steering Committee President Idell Gray, who led the group, said the purpose of the protest was to force Cabinet to listen to the fears of the people.
Mr. Christie told the group this was the first time he had heard from them directly. He promised the group that the matter has been given priority by the Attorney General and asked residents to give the government time to investigate and determine the legality of the situation.
Mr. Christie said the residents had a right to assemble peacefully. He said he understood the high emotions that accompany the threat of one’s home being taken, but reminded the residents that the government does not interfere with matters that are before the court.
However, he said that does not desert people and regardless of what happens he will not abandon the people of Bozine Town.
