Defence Force Declines To Reply To Bribery Claims

Immigration and Defence Force officials say that claims of corruption made by the Bahamas Democratic Movement’s leader Cassius Stuart are so ridiculous and unfounded that they need not even dignify them with a response.

Mr Stuart has claimed that an illegal Haitian immigrant, whom he knew had been deported, had told him that Defence Force officers are taking bribes on the high seas, to allow them back into the country.

“When I saw this guy I had to stop and ask him how he got back in. He said ‘easy, $350 a head when you get stopped on the water.’ We can’t be spending all this money to deport them and have all this slackness in our forces and immigration,” he said.
