Jitney Incident: Two Charged

The man alleged to have robbed and assaulted three jitney passengers by throwing two of them from the moving vehicle was yesterday charged in Magistrate’s Court in connection with a variety of offences related to the incident.


The jitney bus driver was appeared in court charged with several offences relating to the same incident.


Ward Wilson, a 36-year-old resident of Fire Trail Road and 28-year-old Tyronne Scavella of Soldier Road both appeared before Magistrate Maralyn Meers in Court Five Bank Lane.


The three passengers were on a jitney bus travelling to the Pinewood/ Kennedy subdivision after 6:15pm. They were attacked by two men and thrown out of the vehicle while it was moving at a high speed. All three sustained serious injuries.


Among the three alleged victims were 34-year-old British national Stephanie Sturrup, who is married to a Bahamian and has been living in the country for eight years, and Scharad Lightfoot, 25, of Mahogany Street.
