Nassau Motor Company Robbed

Two men, armed with a machine gun, robbed Nassau Motor Company on Shirley Street at approximately 3:40pm. on Thursday.

Fortunately, unlike other recent robberies the crooks did not murder anyone on their way out. In fact, other than being shaken up, no one was hurt in the incident.

The two unmasked men were admitted into the building by an unsuspecting employee. Immediately, one of the men pulled a machine gun from beneath his jacket and the pair jumped over the counter. The man with the gun pointed the weapon into the face of an employee and demanded cash.

The men emptied the cash drawer and then kicked their way out the front security door and escaped, ironically, in a white Honda. The car was not one from the auto dealers inventory.

One employee, who was located in a back office heard the commotion up front accompanied by screams to “call the police”. He dialed 911 but received a busy signal. Repeated attempts to call 911 and 919 also resulted in busy signals.

Another quick-thinking employee in the service department called the personal cell phone number of a friend of his who is on the police force. The police officer friend alerted the station and officers arrived within minutes. Had the first employee been able to get through to 919 the police could have arrived before the robbers left the premises. Unfortunately, the sad state of affairs at the government operated telephone company prevented that.

The robbers apparently weren’t the brightest boys on the block as the cash drawer had been previously emptied and security cameras in various locations recorded the entire robbery.

Police at Central Police Station would not release details of the crime to BahamasB2B. Nor would they say whether the culprits had been apprehended.
