Man Dies On Fishing Trip

According to Inspector Walter Evans, press liaison officer for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, on Tuesday afternoon two men set off on a vessel near Montagu but returned soon after when one of them began experiencing “difficulties.”

“[During] the fishing trip one of the persons experienced some difficulties,” said Insp Evans. “One of the men was brought to shore in a lifeless state.”

Up to press time yesterday, the name of the victim was not released but Insp. Evans said that the man is believed to be in his early 40’s and a resident of the eastern area of New Providence.

“There were no signs of physical injuries,” police said.

“After the police’s initial examination, we do not suspect foul play,” said Insp Evans. “An autopsy has to be performed to determine the exact cause of death.”

* Police are still investigating the late night robbery of a Quick Cell booth, located on C W Saunders Highway, that took place on Tuesday night.

Two employees of the booth were held up at gunpoint by a “dark male” wearing a white cap, according to Insp Evans.”Upon approaching the booth he pulled up his shirt and produced a handgun. As a result of that, he escaped with a small quantity of cash and several phone cards,” said the officer. The robber fled the scene on foot and was last seen heading north.

Investigations are continuing into both matters.
