The Ministry of Tourism has contracted a California company to help it attract more African American tourists.
Lagrant Communications, a marketing communications firm, was chosen over Chicago-based Burrell Communications to help the MOT in its efforts.
“We are pleased to retain Lagrant Communications as the official African American agency of our organisation. We found their team to be knowledgeable, enthusiastic and willing to go that extra mile,” Ellison Thompson was quoted saying in a press release from the marketing company.
Lagrant also explained in the press release how it would help to expand this market in The Bahamas: “In its role as the agency of record, LC will create a public relations programme aimed at increasing the African American traffic in The Islands of The Bahamas and establish them as a place of destination, not only for vacation, but also in which to invest.”
The press release read further, “The programme will also aim at positioning the islands as places to conduct business meetings and conferences. LC will show the appeal of the Islands of The Bahamas to this target market, which will increase the African American traffic.”
During the Nassau Tourism Conference earlier this year, the MOT outlined tourism niches it would pursue throughout the year, including the African American market.
