Family and friends gathered at a church in Mexia, Texas, to mourn Anna Nicole Smith's 20-year-old son Daniel, who died last month while visiting his mother in the Bahamas after she gave birth to a daughter. A private autopsy blamed his death on an accidental lethal combination of methadone and antidepressants.
About 50 people attended the hour-long memorial service Saturday at First Baptist Church of Mexia (muh-HAY'-uh). Mexia's a town of about six-thousand residents about 85 miles south of Dallas.
Daniel Wayneﾒs mother chose to remain in the Bahamas with her lawyer and partner Howard K Stern and their baby daughter rather then attend the funeral service.
Daniel's father and Smith's first husband Billy Smith still lives in Mexia and looked grief-stricken during and after the service. Relatives remembered that before moving away with his mother, Daniel Smith liked to wear cowboy garb and ride horses. His cousins recalled catching frogs and playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with him as a boy.
Daniel's body was not brought to Mexia for the service.
