Concerns Over Public School Crowding

Two public schools have enrolled so many additional students this year that they are now each almost 500 students over their ideal capacity, the Ministry of Education has revealed.

This comes as some parents seeking to move their children from the private into the public system are finding there are no spaces for them at nearby schools, as the Ministry of Education has announced that four public schools are full, or over capacity at present, and no longer accepting enrolments.

According to the Director of Education, Lionel Sands, SC McPherson Junior High and CV Bethel Senior High have enrolled 1,470 students this year, 470 each more than the 1,000-strong student population that the Ministry of Education would ideally wish the schools to sustain.

“That’s too large,” admitted Mr Sands.
