Abaco Community Participates In Human Trafficking Awareness Workshop

The Bureau of Women’s Affairs of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development along with the International Organisation for Migration held a workshop in Marsh Harbour, Abaco from the 17th to the 19th of August, 2010.

The purpose of the workshop was to equip key government personnel, non-governmental agencies as well as community activists with the tools to be able to identify and assist victims of human trafficking.

Thirty people from the Abaco community participated and they were trained by Ms. Chissey Mueller, Programme Co-ordinator of the I.O.M who was assisted by Mr. Elsworth Johnson, Mrs Gayle Outten-Moncur and Ms. Lyn Symonette.

This I.O.M training programme was first launched in 2008.  Since then workshops have been held in New Providence, Grand Bahama and now Abaco.  Another workshop is scheduled for Eleuthera in November.
