A newly formed independent body that is intended to improve education, career prospects and social opportunities for Bahamian law students was officially launched on Tuesday.
The Bahamas Law Students Association (BLSA) is expected to provide professional and scholastic development for its members.
The brainchild of a few Bahamians studying law in the United Kingdom, the BLSA is the country’s first ever student-led national organization that is dedicated to people studying locally and abroad.
“Coming together we realised that there were certain voids that needed to be filled. We wanted more interaction with the Bahamian legal community. We wanted to participate in events with and against our fellow law students. It was then we realised that there wasn’t an organisation like that in place… this group will plan events where students can become involved with various law firms and local chambers,” BLSA President Barry Griffin.
“With the organisation’s relationship with the Bahamas Bar Association (BBA), we will able to expand beyond barriers. Our relationship with the BBA could help keep it essentially relevant,” he said.
