BHA Business-Education Partnership Award Presented To Permanent Secretary Garraway

Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Elma Garraway is presented with the Bahamas Hotel Association Business-Education Partnership Award by President Stuart Bowe joined by Minister of Education Desmond Bannister and BHA Executive Vice President Frank Comito.

Recognizing her longstanding support for bringing business and education together, Bahamas Hotel Association President Stuart Bowe recently presented Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Elma Garraway with the BHA Business-Education Partnership Award.

“For many years BHA has recognized the importance of working closely with our schools and our young people by investing in our future.  The Ministry of Education’s Permanent Secretary Elma Garraway has played a leadership role in many of our signature programs and for that we are most grateful” stated President Bowe.

The Permanent Secretary is quick to recall the numerous partnership activities with BHA, starting with developing the tourism component of the social studies curriculum over twenty years ago, which today is studied by every student.

In recent years she has supported and guided BHA’s work with teachers, students and guidance counselors in programs such as BHA’s summer educator’s internship program, hospitality studies curriculum upgrades, the junior hotelier’s program, career workshops, and a range of other activities.

“We wish to underscore the critical importance of industry and education working together to improve opportunities for young people, better prepare them to seize those opportunities, and helping them to make a positive contribution to our economy and our nation.   Industry is motivated by individuals like Permanent Secretary Garraway whose leadership and support has also inspired many other educators to embrace industry to the benefit of our young people” stated President Bowe.
