Incompetence Reigns at BEC

Monday afternoon, for the third time in a week, the residents of Cable Beach and other areas of Nassau, were without power.

This, depsite assurances from the Chairman of the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), Michael Moss who told newspapers less than a month ago that there would be sufficient power for the summer months.

The incompetence at BEC is legendary.  From the top down, there are people who should be fired but keep their jobs due to corruption and cronyism.

It was only last month that BEC apologised for the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses across New Providence during power cuts.

The company said they were undergoing a major overhaul of diesel generators in an effort to prepare for the increased demand for electricity during the hot summer months.

“Once the overhauls are complete, BEC expects to have more than sufficient generating capacity and the reliability to meet the expected summer demand,” a spokesman for BEC reported in a statement at that time.

It is a pity that the governing politicans are so afraid of losing the votes of the incompetent employees at BEC, that they refuse to do what nthey should have done years ago.

Fire the fools or privatise the company.

Now, the people need to act by firing the politcians.

It ain’t long now… before elections come and, for the first time since independence, the voters will speak with a thunderous voice.
