Four Dead in Weekend of Carnage

The Bahamas’ annual murder toll leaped to 57 following the violent deaths of four men over the holiday weekend.

Two men were shot in separate locations, only 15 minutes apart. One was shot in a scrap metal yard off Cowpen Road.  The other was shot while visiting with friends on Deveaux Street, off East Street.

Both men were shot in the head execution style.  Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third man was shot when he confronted two armed robbers at his home off Carmichael Road.

A fourth man was stabbed in the chest when got into an altercation with another man on Constitution Drive around 10.30pm on Thursday.

Last year, the 57th murder was recorded on August 11, meaning that this year’s murder toll is 54 per cent more than it was at this time last year.

Police have not yet officially identified any of the victims, although it is believed that one of the men shot in the head was Brian Hanna, of Tall Pines Estates. Hanna goes by the street name “Fathead” and police believe he may have been involved in criminal activites.
