New Union For Customs and Immigration

John Pinder, head of the Bahamas Public Services Union was defeated when customs and immigration officers voted in a near sweep for the newly formed Bahamas Customs Immigration and Allied Workers Union (BCIAWU).

Approximately 1,000 officers voted with well over 51 per cent of the vote pushing Mr. Pinder out. According to an unofficial count the new union was secured with over 700 votes.

The BCIAWU has plans to begin immediate negotiations on various issues, including: wages, the shift system, the ethics code, and insurance for all clerical workers.
