Privy Council Set To Make Mockery of Justice Again

The Privy Council’s recent decision clarifying which cases deserve the death penalty could impact the sentence murder convict Michael Beckford receives.

Prosecutors said they would seek the death penalty when a jury convicted him on April 6, 2011 of the murder of Sheanda Newton. Newton’s body was found in bushes off Charles Saunders Highway on October 4, 2008 with a gash to the neck and burn marks on the face.

Last month, the Privy Council further clarified which murders merited the ultimate punishment of death when it quashed the death sentence of Maxo Tido.
