Volunteer Bahamas Set For Launch

Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham

The public is invited to attend the official launch of Volunteer Bahamas, on Tuesday, 22nd November 2011, 6:00 p.m., at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort.

Remarks will be brought by the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Hubert A. Ingraham, and the official Volunteer Bahamas song will be debuted – a remake of the popular Dr. Off’s song, “Get Involved”, performed by a group of prominent, local artists.  The launch will be simulcast in Freeport, Grand Bahama, at the Pelican Bay Resort.

Volunteer Bahamas is a response to the call for “a new era of volunteerism” by the Prime Minister, delivered in his National Address on Crime on 3rd October 2011.  It is an innovative programme designed to harness the generosity of the Bahamian people, and further galvanise the goodwill and charity of scores of volunteers for mentoring, community service and outreach.

Volunteer Bahamas will host a database of volunteers, both individuals and organisations, and will provide guidelines for the training and effective utilisation of volunteers.

Those in attendance on Tuesday evening may register immediately following the launch.

However, registration forms are even now available online, on the government’s website, www.bahamas.gov.bs, as well as at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Thompson Boulevard and the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, in the Post Office Building, East Street.  Family Island residents may collect and return applications to the Administrator’s office, on their respective island.

For further information, visit the Government’s website at www.bahamas.gov.bs, email Volunteer@bahamas.gov.bs or telephone the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture at 502-0601.

Let’s “Volunteer Bahamas” and “Get Involved” in our communities so that we can, together, build an even better Bahamas!
