Bahamas Has Highest HIV Rate In The Caribbean

The Grand Bahama Methodist Women’s Circuit held a seminar that was themed “Women Networking for Global Change” at St. Paul’s Methodist Church on Saturday addressing several issues discussing the nation.

Topics broached during the seminar included, Combating HIV/AIDS, Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women, Promoting Healthy Lifestyles, Achieving Universal Primary Education, Well Drilling in Kenya and Bahamas Methodist Habitat Eleuthera.

The seminar focused on health care and social issues with Dr. Wionna Pratt stressing that HIV/AIDS continues to be a major problem in the country.

“It’s very serious because we had a conference about two weeks ago and we still have the highest rate in the Caribbean,” she said.

Pratt said the public does not like to discuss it, but it is an issue that needs more discussion. She added to that HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence.
