NEMA At Regional Disaster Meet

Captain Stephen Russell, Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, attended the Third Meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) held in Bridgetown, Barbados from April 26 -27, 2012.

The Meeting was preceded by two days of working sessions for Disaster Managers, held April 24-25.

TAC is part of the governance mechanism of CDEMA and provides strategic guidance on the development and implementation of the regional Comprehensive Disaster Management programme.

The Third Meeting was attended by senior officials of the national disaster management organisations of CDEMA’s 18 Participating States – one being The Bahamas.

Captain Russell participated in this year’s discussions, which focused on several key areas pertaining to the further strengthening and acceleration of the regional Comprehensive Disaster Management programme.

Also on the agenda for discussion were the tools for developing a national comprehensive disaster management policy, the Climate Smart Community Disaster Management Programme and the Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation into the CDM Country Work Programmes.

Other areas focused on were the way forward on a Logistics Plan for the Regional Response Mechanism and, the Review of 2010-2011 Emergency Events in CDEMA Participating States.
