Protests Launched Against Pedophile’s Appeal

Andre Birbal

Appalled over two-time convicted sex offender Andre Birbal’s entire appeals process, community activist Troy Garvey is asking residents of Grand Bahama to join him in protest.

“I am making an appeal to the Attorney-General and the Minister of Legal Affairs in reference to Andre Birbal in his appeal for bail to return to civil society,” Garvey said recently.

“It devastated me to see that after all of the heinous crimes he committed against those children and now for him to stand up and talk about coming back into society has left an everlasting mark on me.”

The former Eight Mile Rock art teacher is appealing his conviction and 35-year sentence for having unnatural sex with two of his male students.

The Trinidadian was found guilty of six counts back in February 2011, almost exactly two years to the day the initial allegations made newspaper headlines.

He was accused of seducing his former art students and was brought up on eight counts.
