Police Commander Demoted Over Crime Stats

Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade

Long Island, NY – A Nassau Police precinct commander was demoted for misclassifying and not counting crime statistics, department officials said Tuesday night.

Thomas DePaola’s rank is being lowered from Sixth Precinct inspector to a patrol captain over “a lack of judgment” related to improperly classifying crimes during the past year and a half at the precinct, said 1st Deputy Commissioner Thomas Krumpter.

Many Bahamians think this is what should happen to Bahamas Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade, whose lack of respect for the Bahamian public is appalling.

Mr Greenslade has refused to release crime statistics to the media, allegedly following orders from his PLP political masters, who are trying hard to make it look like their banal Urban Renewal project is taking a bite out of crime.  It isn’t!

Greenslade insists that crime has fallen 6 percent, except for murder and armed robbery, which is like saying it is clear skies except for the dark rain clouds.

Greenslade also refused to notify the public after a flurry of rape incidents, which allegedly caused several more women to be raped, as they had no idea that a rapist was loose in their neighborhood.

Former Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest said there is no “justifiable reason” for the failure of police to produce crime statistics for the first half of the year, especially if they substantiate reports that crime has decreased.
