Police Target Gangs

The recent incarceration of several gang leaders has resulted in a slowdown in murders, according to Superintendent Paul Rolle, who heads the Central Detective Unit.

Last year the country recorded a record-breaking 127 murders. There was also a spree of murders during the first quarter of this year, leading some to fear that the murder record would be broken again. However, murders slowed significantly in the summer months.

Rolle said police strategies have been aimed at local crime organizations. So far this year there have been 89 murders. This same time last year there were 108 murders.

Despite the spate of recent murders, Rolle said he believes that the Police Force’s uncompromising approach to organized crime is paying off.

He added that the public must also do its part.
