BHA Reveals Energy Project

Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association

The Bahamas is poised to launch an energy efficient project whereby several hotels receive “substantial financial support” to institute key recommendations.

According to the Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA), arrangements for the initiative are nearly concluded. The project involves participation from the Ministry of Tourism, with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through the Caribbean Tourism Organization and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.

The program is broad in focus – including hotels in Jamaica and Barbados as well – and extremely significant to the future of the region’s tourism economy. Tourism stakeholders from both the public and private sector agree that energy efficiency is perhaps the single most important factor to the long-term health of the tourism industry.

As part of the Energy Efficiency Project, at least 30 hotels in The Bahamas will be given detailed energy audits.

The project includes information on cost saving measures that can be put in place at little to no expense, as well as changes with big impact but minimal investment.
