Gymnastics Competition Kicks Off December 12

A group of 416 female gymnasts between the ages of 6 and 18 and representing five countries, will compete at the The 2013 Atlantis Crown Invitational Women’s Gymnastics Competition, to take place in Nassau, Bahamas, December 12th-15th.

The event which will mark the organizations 3rd competition in The Bahamas will kick off with an official Opening Ceremony on Thursday December 12th at 7:30 p.m., in the Imperial Ballroom of the Atlantis Resorts, Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas.  The competitive events will begin on December 13 th from this site in The Imperial Ballroom and take place daily.

Said to be the largest gymnastic competition in the Caribbean, the event organizers have shared that it has grown over the last few years.  The returning countries include the United States and Trinidad and new this year will be Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.

Once again The Bahamas will have representation.  Eighty Bahamians from four clubs will be competing.  The Bahamian gymnasts hail from Bahamas Star Gymnastics, Nassau Nastics, Georgia’s School of Dance and Grand Bahamas Gymnastics.

This year’s event will be highlighted by the attendance of Svetlana Boguinskaia, three times Olympian with 5 Olympic medals, who will be available for autographs and meet & greets.

“We are excited, to be returning to what we consider our second home, to host the 3rd annual Atlantis Crown, “said Al Scharns, who with his wife Cindy have coordinated the annual event over the past three years.  The two are co-owners of Branch Gymnastics & KidsSports USA, Detroit, Michigan.

Also attending  this year’s event will be Dusty Ritter, USA Gymnastics Men’s JO Program Coordinator.  According to the Scharns, discussions are underway exploring the possibility of the men’s program, Trampoline & Tumbling and NCAA Women’s Gymnastics joining the Atlantis Crown Invitational in the near future.

Competition hours on Friday, December 13, 2013 are 11:00 am to 9:00 pm and Saturday, December 14, 2013, 8:30 am to 9:00 pm.  Tickets for the event are priced at $20.00 for adults, $15.00 for seniors and $10.00 for children ages 6-16.  Children five and under will be admitted free.  A special rate of $2.00 is being offered on Friday for children between the ages of 6 and 14 accompanied by an adult.
