Aspiring Chef Rico Neely of St. Anne’s Anglican High School is once again the winner of the New Providence Senior Young Chef Finals.
This competition is sponsored by Mahatma Rice and Robin Hood Flour, both distributed in the Bahamas by Asa H. Pritchard.
He also placed first in the New Providence Senior Finals last year, but was not successful in the All Island Championship. He came back this year stronger than ever and fearless.
In winning the senior championship, Rico scored 288 points for the Best Robin Hood Flour dish, “Unda ‘da’ tree Sapodilla soufflé w/ a Tropical Shooter topped with whip cream and Bahamian Benny Cake ” and 275 points for the Best Mahatma Rice “Wild Chicken Roulade on a Peas n’ Mahatma Rice Sweet Margaret Risotto w/ Vegetables”. Neely will compete in the National Young Chef All- Island Championships scheduled to be held later this month when $3,300 in scholarships will be at stake.
Placing second overall was Shandrea Newbold of Anatol Rodgers Senior High School. Shandrea was runner up with 257 points for her Mahatma Rice Dish “Goat Fritter w/ Down Home Tamarind Sauce” and 250 points for her Robin Hood Flour Dish “PaDilly Cake w/ Papaya Cream Sauce”. Newbold along with Neely, will compete in the National Young Chef All- Island Championships scheduled to be held later this month when $3,300 in scholarships will be at stake.
Third place went to Felecia Jarrett 11th grade student of C.I. Gibson Senior High School. Jarrett cane third with 238 points for Mahatma Rice Dish “Rice Pudding Delight w/ Pineapple topping & Raspberry Sauce” and 247 points for her Robin Hood Flour Dish “Bahamian Seafood Tartlets w/ Creamy Sweet Potato Mash”.
Fourth place went to Anastacia Lightbourne, 12th grade student at C.R. Walker Senior High School. Her Mahatma Rice dish “Tropical Conch Sushi” and Her Robin Hood Flour ‘ Caribbean Pumpkin Tiramisu Cake
