Lucan Volmy Wins 23rd Young Chef Junior Schools New Providence Finals

Fifteen-year old Lucan Volmy of Donald. W. Davis, Junior High School won the 23rd Annual Junior Young Chef Champion New Providence Finals sponsored by Mahatma Rice and Robin Hood Flour, both distributed in the Bahamas by Asa H. Pritchard.

Volmy’s Mahatma Rice dish “Pina Colada Rolled Rice Pudding with Chocolate Topping”, mesmerized the judges with his flavor popping chocolate topping. This earned him a total of 356 points. His Robin Hood Flour Dish “Stuffed Curried Bake” earning 335 points, won Best Flour Dish. Lucan will compete in the All Islands Final on March 18th for the overall winner of the National Young Chef Championship.

In second place was Kenya Richmond, a ninth (9th) grade student of Anatol Rodgers Junior High School. Her Mahatma Rice Dish “Rice and Lobster Soufflé” scored a total of 318 points. Her Robin Hood Flour Dish “Tropical Coconut Crumble Tart with Papaya Sauce” scored 325 points. Kenya will compete along with Lucan in the All Islands Final on March 18th for the overall winner of the Young Chef Contest.


Third place went to the youngest competitor, Labrano McPhee, age 13 of A. F. Adderley Junior High School, with 294 points for his Mahatma Rice Dish “Pina Colada Rice” and 316 points for his Robin Hood Flour Dish “Spicy Coconut Seafood Creep”.

Prince Rolle of T. A. Thompson Junior High School placed fourth (4th) with his Mahatma Rice Dish “Combination Seafood Pilaf” and Robin Hood Flour Dish “Guava Pound Cake”
