Unscrupulous Bahamian taxi drivers are charging cruise ship passengers round trip fares before they take them to their destinations.
The illegal practice is a violation of the Road Traffic Act and is cutting into the earnings of other law abiding cab drivers.
“What they are doing is … they are collecting both ways and holding the tourists hostage until they come back and telling them what time they are going to pick them up,” said taxi cab driver Kalvin Rolle.
Taxi driver Michael Bain said he has been observing the underhanded actions of some of his co-workers for years now and is hoping that something will be done to address the issue.
