Deadbeat Restauranteur Evades Legal Action

The Department of Labour has made several attempts to contact businessman Rick Hayward concerning trade disputes filed by his employees, officials say, but have been unable to reach him.

Employees of Rick Hayward’s three restaurants – The Pub, La Dolce Vita and East – which were closed in September after a dispute with the Port Group Limited over rent, are claiming they are still owed severance money, and gathered on Tuesday in the Port Lucaya Marketplace and at Hayward’s home in the hope that they could bring attention to their plight.

Deputy Director of Labour Tyrone Gibson told The Freeport News yesterday that officials have tried unsuccessfully on numerous occasions to serve Hayward with notices.
