Dunmore Court Poised for Early 2011 Opening

Eight months after the first ceremonial shovel of dirt was turned on Dunmore Court, the Bahamian development company behind the $8 million community of 28 luxury homes in southwestern New Providence said today the project was on target with Phase I slated for an early 2011 opening.

“We are very pleased with the progress of the development,” said Vhaul Thompson, owner. “We have worked hard to stick to schedule and to budget while maintaining our quality of construction every step of the way. We are so proud of this, in fact, we hope Dunmore Court will be used as a model of what an all-Bahamian owned, designed and built project can be. We want to be the standard bearers for high-end Bahamian-built residential communities and inspire others.”

When news of the Dunmore Court project first unfolded, it was considered an indicator of confidence in a recovering economy.

“There has been tremendous interest in Dunmore Court which is a good economic indicator,” said realtor Sidney Bethell, Mario Carey Realty. “A number of factors contribute to the interest. The townhomes themselves are extremely attractive. Each home is three stories with an interesting lay-out and generous 2,200 square feet. And with only 28 residences in a gated complex with lush landscaping, pool, fitness centre, there’s a sense of privacy and the feel of being in a controlled clubhouse environment. Children will be able to ride their bikes and play outdoors, something that is becoming increasingly important in The Bahamas when young families look for a safe place to raise their children.”

Price and location add to the interest, said Bethell.

“Right pricing is always a predictor of success and at $499,000, Dunmore Court is priced right,” said Bethell. “Location is a major factor. Dunmore Court is minutes from the new Albany resort and residential community and not far from Lyford Cay. With investors including Joe Louis, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, Albany promises to put southwestern New Providence on the map in a way that it never has been before.”
Phase I of Dunmore Court consists of the first of seven buildings, each with four residences.

Designed by Edward Missick of Missick Designs with interiors by Leslie Callender and Hazel Stirling of Roomers Ltd., residences feature four bedrooms, three and a half baths, granite counters, Kohler fixtures, hardwood flooring, a large open floor plan living/dining area, study and a loft. Dunmore Court also boasts eco-conscious features including, Energy StarĀ® appliances, an under-counter reverse osmosis water system and solar-powered streetlights.

“At Mario Carey Realty, we have two divisions,” said Bethell. “We have luxury property listings — Ocean Club Estates, Old Fort Bay, Lyford Cay and private islands throughout The Bahamas. And last year we launched what we branded MCR2, more affordable lots and homes. The irony is that as we did that, along came Dunmore Court which has all the accoutrements of luxury and the price tag that is MCR2. It’s a community that fits the best of both worlds.”
