New Chapter in Union’s Bid To Block Sale of BTC

The Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union (BCPOU) and the Bahamas Public Managers Union (BCPMU) were given leave to appeal Justice Neville Adderley’s decision stating that the unions lacked the legal standing to commence the legal action they have undertaken.

The unions, which are attempting to block the sale of BTC, had filed a joint action in the Supreme Court questioning the right of the government to sell the assets of BTC. The unions say that the government does not have the legal right to sell BTC.

The unions had applied for an ex parte injunction to block the sale for 51 per cent of BTC until the determination of the substantive hearing.

Ex-parte injunctions are unusually common in the Bahamas and can make decisions that thwart justice and create a mess for the opposing side.
