Scotiabank Honours Top Athletes

This year, Scotiabank, the title sponsor of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations’ (BAAA) National High School Track and Field Championships, has decided to honor the most outstanding male and female athletes of the meet, which will see over 1,200 athletes from more than 45 schools participate.

There had never been a Most Outstanding Athlete selected for the championships. This is the second consecutive year that Scotiabank will be the Title Sponsor of the championships. The financial institution was also the Title Sponsor for the successful Olympic Trials in 2008.

In its 23rd year, the BAAA National High School Track and Field Championships is the brainchild of Dr. Bernard Nottage, former BAAA President. It came about after the very popular New Providence High School Championships had been canceled.

There are six records still standing from that inaugural meet. Daphne Saunders from Eight Mile Rock holds three of them: the High Jump – 1.77 meters (m), Long Jump – 5.97m, and Heptathlon – 4592 points.
