Attorney General John Delaney admitted yesterday that information he recently provided to the Senate on murder convictions was not “completely accurate”, but he insisted it was “substantially correct”.
Delaney said he plans to “clarify” the information on the record of the upper chamber.
During his budget contribution in the Senate last month, Delaney revealed the results of cases concluded in the Supreme Court this year up to June 17, saying there had been 12 convictions for murder or attempted murder as a result of newly-introduced initiatives in the Department of Public Prosecutions.
The following day, Delaney changed that position and said that all of the 12 convictions were for murder.
Yesterday, he admitted that for the year there were not 12 convictions for murder, but 10 convictions for murder, manslaughter and attempted murder combined.
