Mackey Yard Corruption Scam

Yet another group of bad Bahamians involved in a scam.

While attempting to clean up the squatters area known as Mackey Yard, it has been revealed that corrupt Bahamians were illegally charging some of theĀ  squatters to stay on Crown land which, of course, is owned by the government.

Ministry of Housing Brensil Rolle said many people have told him that they were paying rent to Bahamians and some said they had even paid for their lots and thought they owned the land.

Rolle acknowledges that this is most certainly illegal as the land is owned by the governemnt.

The Housing Minister told people who were ripped off to report the matter to the police.

The ring leaders of the corruption scam are yet to be indentified.

Mackey Yard was primarily the home of Haitian squatters before a fire, suspected to have been intentionally set, destroyed dozens of shacks, displacing hundreds of people late last year.

The government is moving to clean up several shanty towns in Nassau.

Work is currently being carried out at two shantytowns in the Fire Trail Road area and one in Fox Hill.
