The Bahamas Tourist Office is launching a competition with a stunning prize – an all-expenses-paid luxury wedding.

The new marketing and publicity drive for the Caribbean destination offers 16  couples a wedding of their own on one of the main 16 islands of The Bahamas.

Included in the prize is a designer dress, rings and wedding ceremony. Flights and transfers; seven nights’ accommodation and meals for each winning couple, plus six nights’ accommodation and meals for their two guests are also included.

The winning 16 entrants will be married simultaneously on 16 May 2012, at 4pm on the different islands.

To enter, couples must visit bahamas16weddings.co.uk to choose one of the islands and then submit a short video clip or photograph and statement explaining why that island is the ideal location for them and their wedding.

Winners of the competition will be notified by 5December, 2011. The panel of judges includes Bahamas Tourist Office, Kuoni, Goldsmiths, WeddingTV.com, You &Your Wedding magazine and Travel Trade Gazette.

Nassau, Paradise Island and Grand Bahama Island are probably the best-known islands, but there are many more making up the archipelago. Other islands include Harbour Island, Eleuthera and the Abacos, as well as Andros, Cat Island, Bimini, the Berry Islands and Long Island plus, further south, the Exumas, San Salvador, Mayaguana, Acklins and Crooked Island. All the islands have their own distinctive appeal, ranging from cosmopolitan Nassau to the deserted, picture-perfect beaches of Long Island.

In total the Bahamas make up a chain of 700 islands that covers just 5,382 square miles of land. The population is a scant 300,000.

Flight to The Bahamas from the UK are easy to find, with major airlines offering flights to Nassau from London Heathrow, London City, Manchester, Gatwick, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Dublin, Aberdeen and Belfast International.
