The firefly is heading south, literally.

First, it flitted into the imaginations of Firefly Vodka co-creators Jim and Ann Irvin of Charleston. Now, it’s found its way to the Bahamas.

The couple recently opened their newest creation, Firefly Sunset Resort, on the Sea of Abaco on Elbow Cay, about 200 miles east of West Palm Beach, Fla. On Friday, they will host a celebration including music, art, a pig roast and plenty of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, Sea Island Rums and Sweet Tea Bourbon, all from the Firefly Distillery.

The seaside resort includes seven villas and cottages with full-size kitchens, three pools, a snorkeling reef and on-site restaurant, Firefly Bar & Grill. “We were looking for a place to rent so our whole family could vacation together, but as soon as we saw this property, we fell in love with it,” said resort owner Ann Irvin, whose husband Jim is a partner of Firefly Vodka, which is distilled at Irvin-House Vineyard on Wadmalaw Island.
