Taxi Drivers Continue Illegal Practices

Taxis illegally demanding roundtrip fares

One taxi driver, supported by others, is calling for the resignation of the Deputy Comptroller of Road Traffic Basil Rahming.

This comes on the heels of some of the taxi drivers’ uproar over the practice by others of asking for return fare from visiting passengers.

When the story of this practice broke in The Freeport News recently, the Deputy Comptroller immediately replied to the matter demanding that the taxi drivers asking for round-trip fares to stop or face the penalty.

He was quoted as saying “The Road Traffic Department is warning those taxi drivers engaged in the illegal practice of charging passengers a round-trip fare upon arrival at their destination with the promise of returning to collect and transport them back to their point of origin to cease and desist immediately from this unlawful activity.
