Armed Robber Fires Gun In Bank Hold-Up

A shotgun-wielding bandit got away with a bag of cash after an a robbery in Eight Mile Rock.

According to police, the victim was in the process of making a deposit at the Bank of The Bahamas’ Bartlett Hill branch when he was approached by the thug shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The man told officers his attacker was armed with a shotgun when he approached him, demanded cash and fired off a shot.

The gunman took the bag of money and escaped from the scene by heading to the rear of City Market in the Harbour West Shopping Center.

Police officers from the Central Detective Unit are continuing their investigation into the incident.

In the meantime, police are seeking the assistance of people who were anywhere in the vicinity at the time of the robbery and urging them to come forward with any information they may have.

The public is asked to contact police at 350-3107 or 8, 348-3444 or 911.

Police are also advising residents to exercise caution when making bank deposits.

Residents are urged not to keep large sums of money at their place of business and to avoid withdrawing or depositing money in the bank during the night if they do not have the assistance of a security company to help with those transactions.

The 10 suspects arrested on Monday – six on Grand Bahama and four on Bimini – for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions were arraigned on New Providence.

Forty-six-year-old Brian Botham, 51-year-old Debra Botham and a 16-year-old juvenile who were arrested on Grand Bahama at 5:50 p.m. Monday after officers discovered a .9mm pistol, a large quantity of ammunitions and a small quantity of marijuana at a home on Bayshore Road in the Midshipman Road area, appeared in Magistrate Court number 9 where they were represented by attorney Kwasi Thompson.

The group pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Brian Botham was granted $10,000 bail with two sureties and Debra Botham and the juvenile were granted $9,000 bail.

The trio is expected to appear in court in Freeport on August 23 and August 24.

Charges were dropped against a fourth person – a female who was arrested with the group.

Fifty-five-year-old Mark Noyes and 46-year-old Merion Noyes who were arrested on Grand Bahama at 1:15 p.m. Monday pleaded not guilty to their charges.

The duo were represented by attorney Roger Gomez Jr. and were each granted bail at $15,000.

The matter is adjourned to September 27 and 28 for trial in Freeport.

The two were arrested after officers discovered a black chrome .9mm pistol and a quantity of ammunitions at their Privateer Lane home.

Twenty-six-year-old Eugene McPhee, 25-year-old Juvin Sawyer, 24-year-old Hank Weech Jr. and 37-year-old Philip Dereck Coakley, who were arrested on Bimini Monday were also arraigned and pled not guilty.

They were each granted $10,000 bail with surety.

The matter has been adjourned to November 20 and 21 where the will face trial in Bimini.
