FNM: Government Lies, Half-Truths and Desperate Acts

The Free National Movement (FNM) is accusing the governing Progressive Liberal Party of engaging in lies, half truths and desperate acts in the Abaco by-election.

In a press statement yesterday, the Official Opposition said that it is satisfied that despite a week of demonstrated desperation and a mountain of lies heralded by the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) in its attempt to swing by-election votes, the fine people of North Abaco know better.

“As if parading an entire Cabinet on Abaco, which served as one of the most desperate political acts in Bahamian history, was not enough, the Deputy Prime Minister of our nation sought to convince the people of Abaco that the former FNM government had neglected to pay any attention to the development and growth of that island. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

The release noted that the facts do not support the mountain of lies and half truths being sounded by the PLP.

The capital works carried out in Abaco between 2008 and 2011 speak volumes.

The FNM met the Abaco Central School without an Administration Building for years. The original was destroyed by fire and it took the FNM’s return as government to rescue a demoralized staff. The cost of that project was $344,000.

Other projects of note in Central Abaco:

– Technical Block – $458,000

– Administration Complex – $19.6 million, the very same complex where the PLP uttered much of its false and misleading charges from this past

week.

– Airport bypass road – $965,000

– Construction of sidewalks in Murphy Town – $630,000

– Construction of Marsh Harbour International Airport’s Terminal, Control Tower, and Fire Crash Station – $27.3 million

– Construction of Community Hospital

– Road work on Bay Front Road, Marsh Harbour – $162,343.38

– Rehabilitation and paving of the North Abaco Settlement roads and portions of main highway – over $3 million

– Central Abaco(Marsh Harbour, Dundas Town, Murphy Town) roads were scoped and priced before May 7, and were to be tendered in July, 2012

The FNM Government cleared grounds for the construction of a multi-purpose gym, and bids were in the advanced stage before the 2012 General Elections.

These and so many other projects, programs, and policies captained by the FNM, outright contradict the Deputy Prime Minister and the PLP’s claims.

The FNM has given the people of Abaco caring and competent representation for decades and no attempt by the PLP during this by-election will persuade the fair minded and well thinking voters of North Abaco, the statement concluded.
