Young Woman Stabbed To Death In Her Home

Murder and mayhem in The Bahamas

Anthonique Hunt, a 20-year-old woman from Bougainvillea Avenue, became the country’s latest murder victim when she was stabbed to death during a domestic dispute yesterday in her own home.

Today would have been her 21st birthday.

Police are still unsure of the details surrounding Ms Hunt’s untimely death, however, officers have questioned a 40-year-old man of Prison Lane in connection to her murder. The suspect was booked at the East Street South Police Station.

Police say they received a call around 11:30am Wednesday morning notifying them that a young woman had been murdered.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of a young woman stabbed in the chest, lying in a pool of blood on the bedroom floor. Ms Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Police superintendent Stephen Dean encourages those in abusive relationships to report domestic violence to the police. According to Mr Dean, a lack of “conflict resolution skills” is the root cause in most of the situations that escalate into violence.

“No one has the right to abuse you, no one has the right to take advantage of you, it is a criminal offense,” Mr Dean said to a reporter from The Tribune. “I don’t care if it is your husband, your wife, or your dearest friend. It is a criminal offense.”
