Carnival Cruise Delayed By Power Outage

Carnival Ecstasy’s scheduled return to Port Canaveral was delayed due to a brief power failure onboard Wednesday evening.

A statement from the line confirmed the ship was without power for about 12 minutes as Ecstasy made its way back to Port Canaveral on the last night of a five-night Bahamas cruise. The ship left Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas on Tuesday evening.

According to the statement, “All hotel services and propulsion were quickly restored and the ship is currently underway on its way back to its homeport.”

Carnival Ecstasy was expected to arrive in Port Canaveral between 8 and 8:30 this morning — an hour or more behind its scheduled 7 a.m. arrival time.

The ship’s next voyage, a four-day cruise to the Bahamas, will depart from the port on time this afternoon, Carnival said.

A Carnival spokesperson told Cruise Critic that the cause of the power outage was a mechanical failure that was repaired Wednesday night.

Ecstasy’s power outage occurred the same day Carnival announced a decision to invest more than $300 million into fleet-wide improvements. These include the installation of backup generators to better power hotel and guest services in case of a power outage at sea, and upgrading the existing fire suppression systems onboard.
