Young Woman Murdered in Another Shootout on Streets of Nassau

22-year-old Morgan Wells died en route to the hospital after she was shot multiple times during a midday car chase in Pinewood Gardens, Monday afternoon, police said.

According to Assistant Superintendent Solomon Cash, officer in charge of the homicide division at the Central Detective Unit (CDU), the woman and two men were at the intersection of Pine Crest Drive and Poinciana Avenue around 2:30 p.m. when a heavily tinted silver Honda Civic approached the black Honda Accord they were riding in.

“They attempted to turn and as they did that, three occupants in the Civic rolled their windows down,” Cash said. “One of them produced a handgun and opened fire on the three persons.”

Cash said the driver attempted to avoid the hail of bullets; however, both he and the woman sitting in the back seat were shot.

The driver managed to make it to the South Beach Police Station in the bullet riddled vehicle after he crashed into a wall that leads to Southern Dreams Estates in Pinewood Gardens, police said.

Officers called for medical assistance but the unidentified woman, who was shot in her back, died a short time later, police said.

The driver was in critical condition in hospital. The second man in the car was not injured, according to police.

Cash appealed to anyone who has information on the shooting to contact police at 911, 919, or CDU at 502-9991.

The murder happened less than 24 hours after a man was shot dead.

Lavado Miller was washing his car in Southern Heights around 5 p.m. on Sunday when a man emerged from a black car parked opposite his home and shot him, police said.

Miller fell between his residence and another residence where he died.

Police are also seeking the public’s assistance in relation to that incident.

The murder count stands at 36 for the year. Last year this same time, the count was 42.
