On Wednesday, September 18, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires John Dinkelman met with Mr. Pierre Parisian, director and founder of the Haitian Organization for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS and STD’s (HOPHAS) during a courtesy call at the U.S. Embassy.
HOPHAS is a local Non Governmental Organization (NGO) committed to addressing HIV/AIDS, STDs, and other issues affecting the Haitian community in The Bahamas, including statelessness.
During the meeting the Chargé d’Affaires presented Mr. Parisien with a Julia Taft grant totaling $16,500. The Julia Taft Grant Fund was created to support small projects that assist refugees, internally displaced persons, vulnerable migrants, and stateless persons, and is administered by the Department of State Bureau of Populations, Refugees & Migration (PRM).
The grant will be used to support HOPHAS’ educational outreach efforts that will include eight workshops focused on Haitian families in The Bahamas.
