Samuel Wartell, Director of Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) Cdr. Mark Driver and Sr. Chief Gregory Zerfass of the visiting U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SAWFISH were given a tour of the “Swan Song of the Flamingo” exhibit at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas.  Mr. Kishan Munroe, local Bahamian artist gave the officials an extensive hour-long tour of the exhibit that recounted the tragic incident that occurred on May 10, 1980.

Through vivid paintings, photos and video the exhibit highlights Mr. Munroe’s recreation of the tragedy as well as response to the incident by renowned Bahamian poets and historians.  The United States Coast Guard provided crucial military support to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas immediately following the sinking of the HMBS FLAMINGO and serves a lasting testament to the strong bilateral partnership that remains in place between the United States and The Bahamas.
