Bahamas Signs Loan Agreement For Family Island Development

The Government of The Bahamas recently signed a $10.1 million Loan and Grant Agreements with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for infrastructure development in Family Islands.

The Loan Agreement and Grant Agreements are to facilitate the repairing and or replacement of bridges and docks in Andros and Eleuthera and prepare feasibility studies with respect projects in Exuma and Abaco.

The Agreement also calls for CDB to sponsor a workshop to familiarize Government personnel in the Ministries of Finance, Land & Local Government and the Ministry of Works & Transport with the and conditions of financing and project  implementation.  In addition, elected officials from the Family Islands, where projects would be located would also be invited to participate in the discussions.

The workshop is scheduled to be held on the 14th and 15th October, 2010 in the Taino Room at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Hotel Cable Beach.

Ms. Nicole Jordon- Legal Counsel
Mr. Norman Cameron, Division Chief
Mr. Elbert Ellis- Operations officer
Ms. Grace Simmons,
Ms. Merlyn Combie, Operations Officer
Mr. Andrew Dupigny, Officer in Charge Economic Infrastructure Division

The day and half workshop will cover; descriptions of roles for government officials involved in the project; legal considerations relating to the loan, social context and stakeholders issues, disbursement policy and procedures and project implementation arrangements.

The opening ceremony which is scheduled to being at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday 14th October, 2010, will have as its featured speaker the Minister of Works and Transport the Hon. Neko Grant.  Also bringing remarks will be Acting Financial Secretary Mr. Ehurd Cunningham.
