NASSAU, The Bahamas – Acting Director of Youth Mr. Greg Butler said the National Youth March and Rally, scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2010, on Clifford Park, will showcase the unity of Bahamian youth and the work of youth organisations in strengthening the country.
“This year our theme is ‘Celebrating Youth … Get Involved (242)’ and that means that we are asking all of the young people of the area code 242 to get involved in some positive youth programme that happens, basically, throughout our country,” Mr. Butler said in an interview, on October 21, 2010.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Charles Maynard said at the recent National Youth Month Official Launch Ceremony, that the Ministry is inviting young people to formalise themselves with the good work of Bahamian youth groups and to become involved in one or more of them,
“We are also using this opportunity to invite Bahamians at large, to volunteer their time and energies to a youth group of their choice,” Minister Maynard said.
“This year we are highlighting all of the various youth organisations throughout our country and that is why we are all set to go,” he added. “We are looking for a very good crowd, we have hundreds of young people and organisations who have pledged to be out there in full force and we are looking forward to a good time.”
The National Youth March will be leaving Clifford Park, at 3 p.m., traveling east on West Bay Street to No 1 Bay Street, making a right on Blue Hill Road to Poinciana Drive, right on Poinciana Drive, right at Nassau Street, then Nassau Street to West Bay Street, past Nassau Palm Resort, left at the traffic light and back to Clifford Park.
About 60 to 70 youth organisations and bands are scheduled to participate and the feedback from participants and audiences has been very positive.
“People have always been excited about the march,” Mr. Butler said.
“We are hoping and trusting that this year’s will be one of the better ones that we have ever had and we are indeed getting better and better each year,” Mr. Butler added. “We are all set to go this Sunday at Clifford Park.”
