Accused Rapist Jailed On Burglary Charges

The man accused of brutally raping an elderly nun was formally arraigned in a magistrate’s court yesterday.

Latterrieo Duncanson, 29, of Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, is accused of breaking into the Roman Catholic Convent in Rock Sound, Eleuthera, sometime between 10:30 p.m. on November 5 and 12:35 a.m. on November 6.

It is alleged that during that time, Duncanson, who was allegedly armed with a knife, robbed the elderly woman of $90 and a ring worth $500.

While at the convent Duncanson allegedly forced the woman to have sex with him. According to police reports, before he left he told her not to contact the police.

Magistrate Carolita Bethell explained that the rape charge could not be heard in the magistrate’s court. She said the prosecutor will either conduct a preliminary hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence for the matter to go to the Supreme Court or proceed by way of a voluntary bill of indictment, which would fast track the case to the Supreme Court.

Bethell said because of the seriousness of the case, she could not grant him bail for the burglary or armed robbery charges.
