Carnage in Abaco

A man was shot to death at his home in Abaco last night.  His wife and one-year old daughter were also shot.

The triple shooting took place just after 6:00pm at Forest Drive, in Dundas Town. The victim is believed to be of Haitian descent. He was pronounced dead at the scene.    The man’s wife and daughter were each shot to the upper body. They were both airlifted to New Providence for treatment.

There was speculation last night that the shooting may have been a robbery attempt. Police said robbery is one of several possible motives being investigated.

The mans’ vehicle was reportedly still running when police arrived at the scene, indicating that the victim may have been ambushed.

In September, a New Providence man was reportedly the victim of a late night ambush after he was pulled from a parked car by a group of men who shot him twice in the upper body.  That incident occurred at the intersection of Carmichael Road and McKinney Drive.

And just last week, Constable Latroy Bodie, a DEU officer who was off-duty at the time, was shot several times while in the Miami Street area on November 4th. Bodie was near the residence of a friend around 5:00am when he was ambushed and shot while sitting in his car.

The Abaco killing is the 91st homicide for The Bahamas in 2010, setting another grueling annual record.
