Chef Ronny Deryckere Dead at 63

Mr Deryckere graduated in 1964 from a culinary institute in Brussels. He worked as a pastry chef, chocolatier and confiseur in Belgium, France and Ireland. Later, he moved to Nassau to work as a chef at the Lyford Cay Club.  he then worked at another popular private club on Cat Cay.

Ronny returned to Nassau where he opened the Delprado restaurant, and then went on to open the pretigious Graycliff restaurant.

In 1981 Deryckere and his Bahamian wife, Esther, bought the Sun And… restaurant off Shirley Street.

With Ronny as chef, the couple turned the restaurant into a popular night spot for fine dining.

About two years ago, he left Sun and… to open the Patisserie Tea Room on Charlotte Street.
