Sasha Joyce Takes Nautilus Sportswoman Title

Sasha Joyce captures the Nautilus Sportswoman Title. Miss Lucky Restaurant Sasha Joyce became the first Semifinalist of the 2011 Miss Bahamas beauty pageant on Sunday afternoon, and luck had nothing to do with it.

The 5′ 9″ former Carifta athlete slaughtered her competition during the Nautilus Sportswoman challenge to become the first contestant to be fast tracked into the semifinals. This competition was not about the fairest or the finest, but it was a survival of the fittest as the contestants competed in a fun but challenging track and field competition.

Under the watchful eyes of executives from the Bahamas Association of Certified Officials, the ladies competed in five disciplines: 200 meters, shot put, discus, high jump, and the 100 meter dash. They were awarded points from each event depending on their placement, and their combined scores determined their overall placement. Sasha easily won every single event. Her dominance was such that other contestants began to concede defeat early in the competition.

Sharie Delva joked, “This may as well have been a beach day, and you guys could’ve just given Sasha the title and trophy!”

The contestants knew Sasha meant business when during the start of the high jump competition, she pulled out a pair of cleats! “You seriously pulling out cleats for us?” she was asked by Kerel Pinder.

A few contestants conspired to snatch them away from her, which they did succesfully. “No problem,” said Sasha, “I’ll jump bare feet!”

Realizing they had no hope either way, they quickly returned the cleats to her. A crowd of supporters turned out to cheer on their favorites, waiving pom poms, banners and posters of the contestants.

When it was all said and done and the points were calculated, the final three were announced: 3rd place went to Miss Hershey’s Chocolate Daronique Young with 61 points; 2nd place went to Miss Universal Wear Tempestt Stubbs with 62 1/2 points; and taking the title with 74 points was Sasha Joyce.

Congrats to Miss Lucky Restaurant on her well deserved victory!
