Thanks to the Sandilands Hospital Welfare Committee, the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre is proud to announce the addition of a Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs Monitor for the Kelly Ward. The Kelly Ward was one of the two areas that existed from the inception of Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre in 1956. It is a ward that caters to female clients with Chronic Mental Illness such as Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar Disorders. It also caters to females who are mentally challenged. The ward has the capacity to accommodate thirty-two patients.
In fulfilling their mandate to assist the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre with their countless needs, Pastor Hugh Roach of the Seventh-day Adventist Church presented Sharon Williams, Hospital Administrator with a donation of a Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs Monitor from the Sandilands Hospital Welfare Committee.
The donation was prompted after Chairman Pastor Roach was informed of the urgent need for a portable vital signs monitoring system on the ward. The Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs Monitor will provide automated blood pressure, heart rate, predictive temperature, oxygen saturation, and pulse rate. Vital signs assessment provides fast and accurate readings which will benefit all of the patients in the Kelly Ward.
Pastor Roach remarked: “we are very pleased to support Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, and we give God’s blessings to the patients who reside in the Kelly Ward and the caregivers who take care of them.”
Medical supply and equipment company Ports International, distributor for Welch Allyn was on hand for the presentation. As stated by Michele Rassin of Ports International “we are proud to have assisted with the procurement of the much needed monitoring equipment at a discounted price. As the largest provider of medical supplies and equipment in the Bahamas, and we are proud to be able to support the essential healthcare needs of the country”.
Sharon Thompson graciously accepted the vital signs machine stating “On behalf of the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Sandilands Hospital Welfare Committee for this much needed vital signs monitor. This generous donation will go a long way in extending their duties on the ward.” As the resources are not sufficient to supply the ever changing equipment needs, the local public hospitals rely on additional donations of vital equipment and supplies.
