Shakespeare In Paradise Launches 2013 Season With Poster Art Celebration

This year, Shakespeare in Paradise launches its 5th season and celebrates The Bahamas‘ 40th year of independence with a poster art exhibition at Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts, Friday, September 27, 6:30-9pm.

The exhibition features the t-shirts, photos and memorabilia, showcasing the poster art created by the artists of Young Artists‘ Programme for the Shakespeare in Paradise theatre festival. To recognize the role played by these visual artists of  in creating the visual brand for the festival, this exhibition has been created.

Thirty images representing thirty shows have been created by 16 Bahamian and international artists: Lindsay Braynen, Stephen Catalano, June Collie, Rashad Ferguson, Zyandric Jones, Kachelle Knowles, Jace McKinney, Jeffrey Meris, Jon Murray, Trevaughn Neely, Bernard Petit, Khia Poitier, Reuno Pratt, Amy Salter, Charlthorn Strachan, Matthew Wildgoose and Julia P. Ames.

The Box Office is now open and tickets are now on sale for all four productions of Shakespeare in Paradise 2013 at the Dundas Centre for the Performing arts on Mackey Street. The Shrew, Gordon Mills’ adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, will have four public performances at the Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts: Saturday. October 5th at 2:00pm, Wednesday, October 9th at 8:00pm , Thursday, October 10th at 8:00pm, Saturday, October 12th at 8:00pm. Tickets $25.

The Legend of Sammie Swain by E. Clement Bethel will also have four public performances at the Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts: Friday, October 4th at 8:00pm, Saturday, October 5th at 8:00pm, Friday, October 11th at 8:00pm, Saturday, October 12th at 2:00pm. Tickets $25.

Speak The Speech II, compiled and written by Nicolette Bethel, from an original concept by Philip A. Burrows, will have three public performances at The Bahamas Historical Society: October 7th at 8:00pm, October 9th at 8:00pm, October 11th at 8:00pm. Tickets $25.

d’bi.young anitafrika, Jamaican-Canadian dub poet and dramatist, performs her  Sankofa Trilogy at Hillside House : October 8th at 8:00pm
, October 10th at 8:00pm and at Nirvana Beach: October 11th at 8:00pm. Tickets $25.

d’bi.young anitafrika, will hold a dub poetry and drama workshop on the Sorplusi method, Saturday Oct 12, 10am-4pm. Registration is $50, and $25 for students. Call the Box Office for details.

The Play Reading Series, will be held at Chapter One Bookstore at C.O.B. at 10am, Saturday October 5th. FREE.

A Poster Art and T-shirt Auction, will close the Shakespeare in Paradise festival this year and will be held at Popopstudios October 13, 1-4pm. FREE entrance.
